FALLEN
MAN IN NEED OF REDEMPTION
The fall wrought a complete
change in man's nature. Sin and condemnation now rested
upon his guilty soul. As a result all men stood in need of
redemption
PLAN OF REDEMPTION REVEALED
PROGRESSIVELY
Redemption means to be delivered
from the bondage and consequences of sin. God has a plan
of redemption, but this plan was revealed to man
progressively. The first promise of it is in Gen 3:15
where it is predicted that the seed of the woman shall
bruise the head of the serpent. It took centuries of
historical unfolding before the seed of woman appears. Gal
4:4 says--But when the fullness of the time has come, God
sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law.
GOD'S COVENANT TO ABRAHAM
When we come to the time of
Abraham, we find a remarkable revelation of the plan of
redemption in the special covenant that God made with the
father of the Hebrew nation. God's plan was to establish a
nation that would be his peculiar people. He would lead
them out of bondage through a series miracles, supply them
food and water supernaturally and many other things that
provide a "type" or picture of what He would
later do (spiritually) in the gospel age. As Paul puts it
in in 1 Cor 10:11--Now all these things happened unto them
for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition,
upon whom the ends of the world are come.
THE MOSAIC LAW
The law of Moses which included
the Ten Commandments, besides governing Israel and
supplying types and shadows: also revealed more of God's
character and nature and helped prepare the Jews for the
coming Messiah.
THE PROPHETS
The prophets came later revealing
more of God and prophesying of the redemptive plan and of
Christ, the coming redeemer.
