Having been born again, we now embark on a new life, A
Christian life. Living the Christian life is a happy life;
filled with joy and a deep settled peace. It is not a life
of constant self-denial as some suppose. Granted, there
are many things a Christian does not do, but for the most
part these things no longer hold an attraction. Problems
of life still confronts the Christian, but now as child of
God we have someone to take them to. That leads us to
prayer advice.
Prayer,
without question is the one most important thing for a
Christian to do. We need to make time and take time to
pray and to pray often. Luke 18:1 tells us...men ought
always to pray.....in time of trouble it is easy to pray
but when things are going good, sometimes it might be easy
to neglect. So we need to put forth a greater effort at
these times, for prayer is also a way to give thanks and
praise to God. Surely we would not want to neglect giving
God the thanks and praise He so justly deserves. Prayer
helps our humility, as we are more aware of our dependency
upon God through prayer. It is through prayer that we have
fellowship with God. John 9:31 tells us....God heareth not
sinners....(except the prayer of repentance of course);
but as a child of God, prayer enables us to know him
better and better through our prayer life.
Family
prayer or praying with others is good, but we also need to
pray alone. When in our secret closet of prayer, we can be
really super-honest with God. He knows our thoughts, our
motives, and what we stand in need of; even before we ask.
(Matt 6:8)We can and should pray about all things, big and
small. When we are asking God for something, we need to
remember two things, First to pray for His will to be done
and second, to believe or have faith that He will answer
our prayers if we have asked according to His will. We can
ask for help in witnessing to others and for Him to deal
with the hearts of our unsaved loved ones. God can help in
our marriage or can find the right companion for us if we
are single, We can ask for guidance on where to go and
where not to go, how to dress, etc. We can also ask for
guidance in where He would have us attend church.
CHURCH
ATTENDANCE
For now
we would say that next to prayer and Bible study, church
attendance (at the proper place) is the next most
important activity for the Christian. It is natural that
Christians want fellowship and assemble together to
worship God. The Bible even commands in Heb 10:25--Not
forsaking the assembling of ourselves together...In 1 Chro
16:29 we read---Give unto the Lord glory due unto His
name: bring an offering, and come before Him: worship the
Lord in the beauty of holiness.
WHERE
YOU WORSHIP...VERY IMPORTANT
In our
present day, with so much deception, confusion and error
being taught, it is equally important where you choose to
worship. To just advise to seek a church "where
Christ is preached" is surely not sufficient; for
about all places claim to preach Christ. John 4:24 tells
us--God is a spirit ; and they that worship Him must
worship Him in spirit and truth. Therefore we advise you
to ask God to help you find a place to worship that
upholds and preach the entire truth of God's Holy Word.
DAILY
BIBLE READING
We can
also seek His face for guidance or understanding His Word.
Bible reading is to your soul, what food is to your body.
So here again we must make time and take time to read from
God's Word daily. 1 Pet 2:2 says-- As newborn babes,
desire the sincere milk of the Word, that ye may grow
thereby. You do not have to read a lot, but you do need to
read regularly to grow spiritually. Do not be concerned
about the scriptures you do not understand at the start.
As long as you obey what you do understand, and have a
desire to learn, God will open your understanding as you
go along. The King James Version is the Bible we recommend
you use. Bible helps and marginal comments may be useful,
but keep in mind only the scriptures are "inspired of
God".
